Classes

College Nine offers some classes which give students the opportunity to intergrate more deeply the theme of College Nine into their academic life. These classes also offer opportunities for students to take a leadership role and teach a class with other students, or go out in the community and engage in community service.

Classes

CLNI 85: Global Action

This course is a small-group learning community taught by student instructors that provides opportunities to explore international and global issues and engage in social change. In the winter of 2009, the final project focused the global food crisis and students planned and implemented "action plans" on the following topics: agrofuels, corn syrup, food justice and fair trade products.

CLNI 191: Teaching Global Action

Upper Division College Nine students are invited to apply to teach CLNI 85. Student instructors go through training in November and in winter quarter and meet weekly with an instructor to explore materials, techniques and tools to facilitate their own weekly section of 12-18 students for CLNI 85.

CLTE 110: Esprit de Corps

A seminar style course designed for College Nine and College Ten students. Participating students volunteer in the community at local schools and non-profits, attend weekly class meetings, and keep a reflection journal. To culminate the service-experience, Esprit students develop a final project related to civic engagement. Read more.

Research Opportunities:

Additionally, there are several excellent opportunities for student involvement in research for course credit through most majors.
