College Nine Pathways to Distinction

One of the unique features of College Nine is our recognition of the multiple and diverse ways in which a student can achieve distinction in their studies. We recognize that learning styles and educational commitments are unique and personal. To encourage outstanding achievement, academically qualified students will be recognized at graduation with College Nine Distinction if they successfully completed three academic quarters through one of the following routes:

Language and Culture: Students who enroll in at least three quarters in either education abroad or a foreign language may qualify for College Nine Distinction. For more information about the Education Abroad Program, visit the UCSC Office of International Education homepage.

Research and Scholarship: Students are encouraged to pursue research opportunities with faculty by doing three quarters of a senior thesis or a research internship. Students may be recognized with College Nine Distinction if they who do a thesis or a research internship in their major on a topic related to international or global issues.
