International Living Center

Founded in 2001, the International Living Center (ILC) is a unique undergraduate apartment community made up of a mix of US and International Students.   A small community of only a 100 students, the ILC offers a unique living and learning environment that fosters understanding, cooperation, and friendship among people from different nations, cultures, and backgrounds.  During the 2011-2012 academic year, we had students from 30 different countries living in the ILC.

Located in the College Nine and College Ten Apartments, the ILC houses approximately 100 students, half of which are US students seeking a degree from UCSC, and half of which are international students who are visiting UCSC as part of an exchange program.  They live together in apartments, with each apartment housing between four and six students in a mixture of single and triples.

The ILC is founded on the belief that the best way of forming intercultural friendships and fostering international understanding is through working, living, studying, and socializing with people from different background.  To that end, each apartment is made up of a mix of US and international students from around the world.  The ILC staff and residents organize many special events, designed to create a global community among residents and to help new international exchange students adapt to living in the United States.
