We are happy to announce that this year’s commencement speaker is Tess Bridgeman.

Tess served as Special Assistant to President Obama, Associate Counsel to the President, and Deputy Legal Adviser to the National Security Council, where she advised on the full range of issues relating to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.  Her portfolio at the White House from 2014-2017 included the negotiation, implementation, and oversight of the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), use of force, human rights, Middle East and North Africa policy, Cuba policy, foreign assistance, and U.S. engagement with the UN and other international organizations. She is currently a Lecturer at Stanford University, an Affiliate at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation, and a Senior Fellow at NYU Law School's Center on Law and Security.

    Graduation
At UCSC Graduation is the act of conferring an academic degree - receiving your degree or diploma. You apply to graduate the quarter you'll be finishing your graduation requirements. DO NOT apply to graduate in Spring Quarter if you will be finishing your final graduation requirements in a subsequent quarter. To apply to graduate, you must submit an application via your Student Portal by the posted deadlines for announcing candidacy. There is more information about how to apply to graduate on the Registrar's Office graduation website.

    Commencement

  • Get Involved in Your Commencement!

  •

Get recognized for your leadership and involvement at College Nine!

If you have been active in programs and leadership positions that relate to our college theme of International and Global Perspectives, consider applying for the International and Global Perspectives Leadership Certificate. The International and Global Perspectives Leadership Certificate requires self-nomination, and forms are available online at http://collegenine.ucsc.edu/cocurricular/leadershipcertificate.html, click on the "Leadership Journal." The form lists sample qualifying activities and includes space for you to record your leadership involvement over the years you have been at the college.

Apply for the certificate by Friday, May 4, 2018. (Late applications may be accepted, but earlier is better.  Certificates awarded to late applicants may not appear in the Graduation Booklet.)

For more information, contact the Coco at coco@ucsc.edu, or talk to any College Ten staff member you have worked closely with.

    Participate in the Multilingual Welcome!

The College Nine Commencement Ceremony begins with the traditional Multilingual Welcome: a greeting from members of the Class of 2018 in some of the many languages of our graduates and their families. You can request to participate in the Multilingual Welcome on the Commencement Registration page (see above). One student will be selected for each language. If more than one student requests a specific language, priority will be given to the student whose request came in first. You will be contacted in May about your participation in the Multilingual Welcome.

Participants in the Multilingual Welcome are required to attend the Commencement Rehearsal on June 15th. See below for details.
