Quick FAQ about parking during commencement

(For additional information about parking and transportation please visit

How many passes do we get for the commencement?
Each graduate can request a maximum of two commencement parking passes. Cars will need these parking passes to enter the commencement parking lots. There are no exceptions. Please plan ahead if you have a big group of people coming to commencement, see below for some options that may help.

Please note: Parking and access are strictly controlled during commencement weekend. Make sure to follow directions given by University Police and/or Event Parking staff.
“R” permits expire on June 16th and WILL NOT be valid during Commencement Weekend.

I have a lot of people coming to the ceremony, what do I do?
There are a couple ways to accommodate a big crowd during commencement.

Make use of the minivan that your family owns to bring more people to the commencement. In other words, fill your cars at their legal capacity to save the amount of parking spaces available. (Note: Large vehicles like limos, RVs, buses and large vans will have to park in overflow parking at the base of campus.)

    Public Transportation
The metro buses will be free during commencement weekend on routes going up to campus. Your guests may park downtown in one of the structures and ride the bus to campus. Check the bus schedule because bus services are different during the summer. Loop shuttles will also be running throughout the weekend.

Maybe your friend or someone you know doesn’t need two parking passes. You may use their parking passes if they don’t need all of them. Don’t be aggressive though, please.

    Overflow Parking
If a car without a parking pass shows up during commencement weekend, they will be directed to the overflow parking lots at the Barn Theater or Granary at the base of campus. All oversized vehicles(RVs, Limos, Buses, etc) will also be directed there. Do not count on parking at these lots because they are small and fill up fast.

My guest need wheelchair accommodations. Is there disabled parking near the commencement ceremony?
Yes. When you come pick up your parking passes, you can request that one (or both) of your parking passes be swapped for disabled passes. These passes will allow you to park near the ceremony site or shuttle stop at the commencement parking lot. If your guest can ascend two steps, they may ride a standard life-equipped campus shuttle. If your guest requires additional support, or uses a wheelchair or motorized mobility device, they may ask a shuttle driver to call for Disability Van Service, where they will be delivered directly on site. More information about accessibility in commencement sites is available at
