Join the CoCo Team as a Faculty Initiatives Assistant (FIA) or Special Projects Assistant (SPA)

Apply to become the College Nine Faculty Initiatives Assistant or Special Projects Assistant!

The Faculty Initiative Assistants and Special Projects Assistant are full-year CoCurricular Programs student staff who plan and produce theme-related community events at College Nine and College Ten.

The Faculty Initiative Assistants plan and produce full-length, theme-related community events like workshops, lectures, and film screenings. These students work with faculty, graduate students, and on- and off-campus organizations to produce content to benefit the Colleges Nine and Ten community. The Special Projects Assistant develops informal passive and interactive programs, such as social media campaigns, and creates and implements pop-up events, workshops, and other programs.

There is one FIA Position for College Nine, one FIA position for College Ten, and one SPA position that serves both colleges.

The application deadline for FIA and SPA CoCo Staff positions is Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020.

There are two steps to apply for the FIA and SPA CoCo Staff positions:

1) Visit the Career Center website and complete the Student Employment Services Application

  • Fill out (ER#1617) for the FIA positions

  • Fill out (ER#7745) for the SPA position

2) Review the job description and criteria and complete the Supplemental Application.

  • Due to health and safety concerns, we are no longer accepting in-person applications. Please submit the online form. If you have questions, please contact coco@ucsc.edu.

  • Note: You will need to provide two references. Ask two people who can speak objectively of your skills and abilities to serve as references. The references should come from individuals able to objectively speak of your skills and abilities (e.g. previous employers, professors, activity advisors, etc.) No letter of recommendation is necessary; after the interviews, we will contact the references of anyone we intend to hire and ask them to complete a short survey online or over the phone. It is helpful to have at least one of your references come from a UCSC employee. Only one of your references may come from another student, for example your RA, or another student leader who has worked closely with you.

Turn in your complete supplemental application packet online by Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020.

AFTER APPLYING:

1) Please note that interviews will take place on Zoom the following week.

  • Applicants who will be interviewed for the position will receive an email inviting them to interview. Dates set aside for interviewing are Monday, April 27th - Wednesday, April 29th. Please save these dates on your calendar now so that you will be available to schedule an interview. If you would like to include a portfolio of relevant work you can bring it the interviews. If you need to make special arrangements for scheduling, please email coco@ucsc.edu.

2)  All applicants will be notified with via email by 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 30th regarding the hiring decision. You must be prepared to accept or decline the postion by 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 3rd, 2020. More information about this timeline will be provided to you at and after the interview.
