Become a College Nine and College Ten Community Programs Assistant!

 

Programs Assistants are student leaders for the College Programs Offices. PAs are primarily responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating small and large scale community-wide programs and events. They also serve as a resource for students and an active community leader of the college. This position requires attention to detail, creativity, ability to work independently and excellent teamwork skills.

There are four CPA positions available at College Nine and College Ten. The position is for the 2020/2021 academic year, with some training in Spring 2020 and before Fall Quarter 2020.

There are three parts to the Community Programs Assistant Application:

  1. Attend an Information Session

Unless you are a staff member reapplying for your position, you must attend one info session in order for your application to be considered, and we strongly encourage you to attend prior to beginning your application. Scroll down for a complete list of info session dates and times. 

Info Session Dates, Locations, and Times (you must attend and sign-in at one of these events):

  • January 8th, 6-7 PM at Stevenson Event Center
  • January 8th, 8-9 PM at Crown/ Merrill Apartment Community Room
  • January 8th, 9-10 PM at Namaste Lounge
  • January 9th, 4-5 PM at Namaste Lounge
  • January 9th, 6-7 PM at Oakes Learning Center
  • January 10th, 5-6 PM at Baytree Building, 3rd Floor
 
  1. The Common Application

Thank you for your interest in a student leadership position! The application is due by Sunday, January 12th at 11:59pm. Attending an info session before applying is mandatory. If you are unable to attend a scheduled info session, please email lead@ucsc.edu

Common application essay prompts: As part of the application you will be asked to answer the following prompts in up to 250 words each.

  • Describe a time you overcame a challenge that helped you develop as a leader.
    • Things you should include in your response: share one challenge you experienced, share your role/involvement, share what you learned, and share how would you apply this experience to the student leader role
  • Describe a time you contributed to an inclusive community (a community that is intentionally built to include those of different and diverse backgrounds, in particular those with traditionally marginalized identities, ensuring everyone is welcome and there is openness to engage across those differences).
    • Things you should include in your response: share your role, share how your action contributed, share what you learned.

Two References: As part of the application you will be asked to include two references.

  • Ask two people who can speak objectively of your skills and abilities to serve as references, for example previous employers, professors, activity advisors, etc. Ask your references well ahead of the deadline so they have time to accommodate your request.

CPA Selection Timeline

First-round interviews will occur in late January and second-round interviews will occur in February. 

 

Decisions Sent to Candidates:
