New Frosh Academic Advising

Believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about enrollment for your first quarter at UCSC! In order to receive an enrollment appointment, you must complete Parts 1 and 2 of the Slug Orientation Course and submit your official transcripts to the UCSC Office of Admissions. Your enrollment appointment is how you enroll for classes in your MyUCSC student portal.

Please visit the Orientation site for more information about the Slug Orientation Course!: https://orientation.ucsc.edu/

Get Prepared...

Your first quarter schedule may look something like this (12-15 units):

  1. College Nine Core Course (CLNI 1): This class is required for all frosh to take in Fall Quarter
  2. One or Two Major Course(s): Refer to these Getting Started in Your Major Guides for ideas of what to enroll in. If your intended major is in a STEM field, you may need to take a math class this fall and you may need to take the ALEKS Math Assessment.
  3. GE or Major Exploration Course: Feel free to take something of interest to you! These may be GE requirements, exploratory classes in a field you might like to major in, or simply classes that grab your attention. (Avoid upper division classes, which are numbered 100 and above.)

*NOTE: If you are hoping to enroll in a course that is currently full, you should enroll in a back-up class and place yourself on the waitlist for the course using the "If Enrolled Drop This Class" feature in your student portal.

To ensure a smooth enrollment experience (and first quarter), as a reminder please complete your Slug Orientation Course and review the New Student Advising Information for Frosh. This Frosh Advising pages are designed to help you understand a typical quarter, the class selection process, and the basics of building your schedule--for Fall and beyond.
